.. the future of our Church.
The mission of our children’s department at Gentle Shepherd Church of
the Nazarene is to help children move closer to Jesus Christ. We
believe strongly that children are the future of our church;
therefore, we need to do everything in our power to guide them in
their spiritual walk.
What a joy it is to work with the future leader of our church. Join

Children's Church
The Children’s Department offers a Sunday morning program for all
children in grades Kindergarten through Sixth. The program takes
place during the morning service and is held in the large area next
to the fellowship hall.
The program begins at 10:30 with a time of stewardship with Leisa
Parry. This first half hour is filled with singing, Bible verse
memorization, the giving of offering as well as other games and
activities.
The Sunday morning program then continues at 11:00 with a variety of
activities. This part of the program is on a 6 week rotation schedule
where the children spend the first three Sundays in age appropriate
classes. Then during week four they participate in an Adventure
Sunday where the lesson and activities focus on missions. On
Adventure Sundays the children ‘travel” to various countries and
learn about their customs through special videos, food, crafts, games
and activities. In week five they take port in the “Hide the Word”
program where the focus is on the Bible and what it teaches about
living our lives for the Lord. The last week in the rotation offers a
time for the children as well as the workers to attend the adult
service. We believe that it is important for the children to be seen
in the service and be a part of the praise and worship that takes
place in the sanctuary.
Nursery
An experienced staff is available for our three and under crowd. Games,
activities, and special devotional material are offered for these toddlers.
It is an opportunity for mom and dad to focus during adult Sunday School and
the Worship Service while their children discover fundamental Biblical
themes.
Sunday Evening Program
During the school year children from 1st to 6th grade participate in
a quizzing program which is run by Rebecca Gentzler. During the
summer months, the children participate in “Pray Kids”, a program
that focuses on prayer and its importance in our every day lives.
Wednesday Night Kid's R.O.C.K.
Kids Reaching Out for Christ's Kingdom is special program
that is offered for the children age 5 through sixth grade
during the adult Wednesday night devotional time. It consists of
several activities including: community-sponsored events, missionary nights
focusing on world evangelism, volunteering opportunities, and plain old
kid-focused fun.
Special Activities
Holiday Celebrations
The children’s department holds special celebrations at various times
throughout the year. The children participate in crafts, games and
other activities to celebrate fall/harvest, Christmas, and Easter.
Vacation Bible School
Every summer the children’s department holds a week long Vacation
Bible School extravaganza. Children from ages 5-12 are invited to
participate in singing, crafts, games, and Bible stories. This is a
week pocked with fun and excitement in which children are given the
opportunity to interact with other children their age while learning
about Jesus and growing closer to him.
Quizzing
Quizzing teams consist of children who voluntarily choose to participate
in an in-depth study of Scripture, with memorization and comprehension as
its focus. They compete amongst each other on local, district, and
regional levels. This is an amazing ministry that hides the Word in
children's hearts and provides fun and fellowship too. For grades 1-6,
usually meets Sunday evenings from 5-6PM
Children’s Talent
Children’s talent is a Christian competition between churches in our
district and is open to children age 6 to Sixth grade. Children have
the opportunity to participate in various categories such as music,
memorization, and art. There are three levels of competition, local,
zone and district. Rehearsals for children’s talent begins in January
and competition wraps up in April. For more information, see
Bev VanHorn, our children’s talent coordinator.
