Confession

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9

Confession is the humble act of agreeing with God that we have sin in our hearts and lives. Sometimes our sin is something no one but God and we know. But if it’s there, it’s coming between Him and us, and it has to go!

Before you pray today, ask yourself : Is my own heart clean? Do I have any unconfessed sin that needs to be dealt with?

Ephesians 4:26-27 reminds us that unconfessed sins such as anger can be a foothold of the enemy in our lives. Examine your heart before the Lord in prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any unconfessed sin and/or footholds of the enemy. Consider the following: Is there...

Anger?
Offense or unforgiveness?
Jealousy?
Sexual impurity?
Dishonesty?
Fear?
Other attitudes and actions which are contrary to God’s Word and will?

Here are some simple steps to help you confess your sin to the Lord, and resist the enemy’s attempts to establish footholds in your life:

1. Repent of the sin. Be honest. Call it what it is — God already knows
2. Resist the enemy’s attempts to establish footholds in your life through this sin.
3. Receive God’s forgiveness. There is no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus Christ!
4. Replace the wrong behavior or thoughts with the truth of God’s Word. Ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit and allow His character to be the fruit of your life instead.
